1. SAY HELLO TO THE TONER.
The right toner can make a BIG difference to how your skin reacts to the rainy weather.
If your skin gets all oily and sticky, a toner containing salicylic or glycolic acid helps sweep up any extra sebum from your pores, so that your enlarged pores are tightened and not so visible.
If your skin is dry, a hydrating toner containing hyaluronic acid adds an extra boost of moisture to plump your skin and reduce that tight, dry feeling.
If your skin is sensitive and prone to rashes and flare-ups, a toner with skin calming ingredients like chamomile, calendula or green tea helps lessen the redness, inflammation and itchiness.
TIP: Avoid toners with alcohol! They strip your skin and irritate its protective barrier – making matters worse.
Stuff I : I’m a rosewater addict. I love that it’s natural and does a fantastic job toning, hydrating and brightening my skin in just one swipe.
2. PUT ON A CLAY MASK (AND TAKE A SELFIE).
When the humidity rises, so do the oils in your skin! To keep your skin balanced and clear, use a clay mask at least twice a week.
The clay will soak up all the extra oils, along with any dirt and grime that may be stuck in your pores. Yay!!!
TIP: You DON’T have to apply the clay mask all over your face. Only put it on the greasy parts. That way, you only pull out extra oil and don’t end up with dry patches.
Stuff I : Good old Multani Mitti (Fuller’s Earth) is my go-to clay mask.
3. BRING OUT THE SCRUB.
The rain and humidity can cause a build-up of dead skin cells – hello dull skin and clogged pores!
It’s time to start scrubbing. A face scrub buffs away those dead skin cells, leaving you with smooth, bright skin.
TIP: You want to do a thorough job, but without any irritation. So use very little pressure and do it not more than twice a week.
Stuff I : I’m loyal to St. Ives Apricot Scrub. My skin glows every time I use it.
4. WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT SKIP THE MOISTURIZER!
We get it. You don’t want to moisturise when it’s so humid. But you really, really should!
Because a moisturiser slows down oil production. When you deny your skin moisture, it overproduces oil to make up for the loss.
So make sure you use an oil-free or gel moisturiser twice a day to keep your skin hydrated, but without the greasiness.
Stuff I : I absolutely love the Clinique Moisture Surge 72-hour Auto-Replenishing Hydrator. It’s so light but incredibly hydrating. My skin feels plump and happy – never greasy!
5. WEAR A SUNSCREEN RAIN OR SHINE!
80% of harmful sun rays can pass through clouds! So sun damage can happen even on an cloudy, rainy day!
It’s best to end your morning skincare routine with a water-proof sunscreen – no matter what the weather.
Stuff I : My fav sunscreen has to be the Shiseido Perfect UV Protector Wetforce. It’s gentle enough to be used on babies and it’s super waterproof. Love love.
6. USE A CLARIFYING SHAMPOO
What gets greasier than your face when it rains? Your scalp!
And if you don’t clean it well, you could end up with breakouts near your hairline.
Use a clarifying shampoo to remove all the grease and product build-up – so your scalp is clean and forehead stays clear.
P.S.: While taking these pictures, people stopped me on the street to ask where I got my umbrella from. In case you’re wondering too, it’s from By Bosky.
